IFIR co-sponsors international conference with CESifo

"New Directions in Fiscal Federalism"
September 14-16, 2006

The Institute for Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations has hosted an international conference on "New Directions in Fiscal Federalism" which took place on September 14-16, 2006 in Lexington, Kentucky. This conference was co-sponsored with CESifo, a major research institute based in Munich, Germany and affiliated with the University of Munich.

The conference featured presentations of current research by leading researchers from around the world, including important contributions both by eminent senior scholars as well younger investigators. Research topics included studies of tax and social welfare policies in the European Union, state and local government fiscal policies in the United States, international migration, and intergovernmental transfers and regulatory relations within the US and in the international context. Formal discussants and the general audience examined and debated these and other matters during two and one-half days of focused academic interchange. In addition to scholars from the US and abroad, participants included many faculty and students from the University of Kentucky and from Morehead State University.

For more information about the conference, including the conference program and papers, see the conference web site.
